Kingdoms & Culture

Aven

Aven is the homeland of Ada il Dura, the protagonist of The Smoke Charmer's Tale.

It is a rich land for farming and the two great rivers allows merchants to travel far inland to trade. Although at one point the River Rinnoire divided the land into two separate kingdoms. But for a few centuries (before the beginning of The Smoke Charmer's Tale) the land has been united.

At that time the city Casida was built to straddle the River Rinnoire by redirecting the river through a network of pre-built canals and tunnels. It became a center of commerce with Nordlann and Errivel as a trade route was established over Lake Derrimere and through the Great Pass of the Border Mountains.

Eventually the royal coffers were so full that "Mad King Joset" was able to complete many of his extravagant building projects without going bankrupt... just. But the treasury never recovered fully, and subsequent kings have been more reliant on their supporting lords. (His projects included transforming the fortified Viere castle in Casida into a pleasure palace and building the Dragnoss Dome.)
