Autumn Foliage

Firnest Fiddlesticks

Firnest Fiddlesticks dances in the corner of your eye, stirring up the autumnal leaves to dance.

Wherever the leaves fall,

          there prances Firnest Fiddlesticks

enchanting the leaves with a haunting call

                  there dances Firnest Fiddlesticks

Yet none have ever seen him....

                                    ... well, almost none.

Summer went hunting for the biggest leaf.

It would be HUGE – as big as a kite;

She could tie it to a string and watch it take flight.

It would be yellow with streaks of red,

it could be a crown to wear on her head.

She looked at the trees and searched on the ground,

She looked high and low and all around.

Leaves, leaves, leaves!

Too many to count, too many to see!

Some were red and some were gold,

Most were brown, crunchy and old.

THERE!

On the tallest branch of the tallest tree,

Was a great gold leaf, as big as could be!

Summer stretched and Summer jumped.

She tried so hard but it wasn’t enough!

What could she do?

The wind came and blew…
